Pre-med and allied health students from the University of Wisconsin system schools in Stevens Point, Eau Claire, Stout, La Crosse and Madison, University of Minnesota and Cardinal Stritch made final rounds as participants in Marshfield Clinic's 22nd annual Pre-Med and Allied Health Winterim Experience, held January 3-13.

Sponsored by the Clinic's Division of Education, this annual program enables students to observe several physicians and allied health care professionals in a clinical setting.

Last year, 139 physicians and 37 allied health providers took part in this special opportunity. This year, 145 physicians and 50 allied health providers from across the system are mentoring pre-med and allied health students in various fields of medical expertise.

Along with providing valuable observational and learning experiences, the providers offer advice, support and information about career options in the medical field. During the pre-med internship, students also attend teaching conferences, touch base with support services and interact with resident staff and medical students to experience the day-to-day environment of clinical practice.

Leading the program were Division of Education Interim Director and Pre-Med Program Director Douglas Reding, M.D., M.P.H., FACP; Administrative Manager Kerri Weister; and Education Coordinators Mindy Johnson and Michelle Van Hoof at the Eau Claire Center; Deanna Burt, Kathy Endries and Julie Nikolay at the Marshfield Center; Diane Nyberg at the Minocqua Center; LouAnn Cordes at the Rice Lake Center and Tina Hipke at the Wausau Center.
